Born in 1973, he began his musical journey early, learning to play the cello in the third grade. While attending military school in his early teens, he received a firm foundation in military rudiments on the snare drum, and his appreciation for percussion began. Chris Carroll started his professional career at age 13, playing a drum set for local bands in New York. He then attended the musical performing arts high school, BOCES Cultural Arts, where he discovered his love for jazz music. Carroll received scholarships from the National Endowment of Arts and the New School for Social Research, where he graduated with a Bachelor degree in 1995. He has performed with Ben Monder, John Hart, Brad Shepik, and Ron Affif. The Yamaha Drum Corporation endorses Chris Carroll.
